Vegas Means Business

We are all very familiar with the notoriously hedonistic lifestyle that takes over once visiting Las Vegas. Last year alone, over 38,000,000 people came to Las Vegas for a taste of the glitz, glamour and gambling that is almost commonplace in this Western city.

But for those in the business industry, you may start to see a new, interesting ad slogan: "Vegas means Business."

A far cry from "What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas," "Vegas means Business" is an invite for businesses to host or attend trade shows, business meetings and retreats. An advertisement on the Trade Show News Network homepage, when clicked, expands to a website with planning tools for business trips and details about the many locales designed for trade shows.

Las Vegas seems like the perfect place to attend a trade show or business meeting. Not only are the venues large and updated but there is plenty to do once the meeting or trade show is over. Be sure to have a flashy promotional giveaway on-hand when visiting.

Is Vegas the 'Convention Capital?'

What do you call a city that's home to nearly 20,000 trade shows and conferences in a year? Some might dub it the "Convention Capital."

It's an apt name for Las Vegas, Nevada, where close to 5 million people gather annually for various events and conventions. Some get-togethers can draw in tens of thousands of people alone. And, according to the Las Vegas Sun, that's because the city's 100,000+ hotel rooms can easily house large numbers of visitors.

But Sin City's trade shows can also be small, quirky and even bizarre.

Let's take a look at a few stand-out trade shows headed to Vegas soon:

  • Las Vegas International Accordion Convention: Sept. 24 - 27
  • UFO Think Tank on Science, UFOs and the Search for Extraterrestrial Life: Oct. 4 - 8
  • Catalina Cat Show: Dec. 29 - 30
  • 2013 Potato Expo: Jan. 8 - 11

Yes, they seem unusual. But when you're the "Convention Capital," you're bound to host at least a few strange ones. Hey, at least attendees can look forward to some unique promotional products!

If you've been to your local mall at least once in the last decade, you've seen that there are more businesses sprouting. While it is true that malls all over the country have been expanding in size, it is because of temporary stores, kiosks and turnkey operations. Kiosks alone are an industry comprised of bright, intelligent minds in an industry that is raking millions of dollars a year.

Did you know that the car rental industry is a multibillion dollar?

The number in the United States is $20.6 billion. That number is just for last year and is only one region of the world.

There's no wonder why this industry is on the rise. With different economies flourishing or on the decline at different rates, travel is on the rise. Because travel is increasing exponentially, the car and truck rental business is growing.

If you're anything like me, you're desperately looking for a way out of spending 4+ months in New York during winter weather. I have annual remedies that range from hopping on a flight south to looking up .jpeg images of tropical regions.
Although I've never done it, many hop a flight with their golf bag and spend their time playing 18 holes (or more) in the warmth of the sun.
If you're looking forward to doing the same thing this year, might I suggest a change of pace: the Golf Industry Show.
Held at the Convention Center in famed Las Vegas, NV, the Golf Industry Show is one of the largest of its kind. The convention includes keynote speakers from the industry as well as exhibitors and distributors with hundreds of new and exciting promotional golf products. These might include custom imprinted golf tees, custom imprinted polo shirts and even custom imprinted golf balls. Best of all, there is exactly 129 golf courses in the Las Vegas area where you can show off your skills and new products.
The tradeshow takes place between February 29 and March 1 of 2012, leaving you plenty of time to find airfare, hotel and something to dust off your old clubs.

An Industry on the Rise

The trade show industry can fall flat in summer months, but this August proved to be a big hit in Las Vegas, Nevada. With close to a 20% increase in convention attendees, the Las Vegas Convention & Visitors Authority (LVCVA) was overjoyed. In addition to the increase in attendees, there was also an increase in the number of trade shows, conventions and meetings held in August this year - a jump of close to 14%.

Why the sudden increase? There are a few contributing factors to the boost in the Las Vegas trade show industry: some shows rotated back to Vegas after being held elsewhere in recent years, and there were several big shows that brought in extra bodies.

According to the LVCVA, the North American Beauty Events' Cosmoprof Beauty Show was a huge contributing factor to the rise in attendance this August. In previous years, the show has been held in July. In addition, Advanstar Communications' MAGIC Marketplace brought in a huge audience to the Las Vegas Convention Center and Mandalay Bay.

It only goes to show you that you should never write off anything in this industry. Trade shows continue to rise, bringing you great opportunity for face-time with current customers as well as new business. Trust Motivators to help you make a big impression at your next event with unique trade show giveaways.
